The UFO of Gemini VII: the "bogey" of Frank Borman 
A reader, Luke, I report the occurrence of one of the alleged UFO sightings by astronauts often cited by UFO
sites: that of Frank Borman and James Lovell during the Gemini VII mission in December 1965. The episode is recounted by giving the astronauts of radio communications that speak clearly of an unidentified vehicle and the narration is often accompanied by the photograph shown here next.

During the second orbit Borman indicates a bright object in front of the capsule, which can not be the rocket, as the latter is also visible through the door. Later are photographed strange bluish light, equipped with vaporous appendices, which pass under the Gemini. For the first sighting, NASA speaks of an unknown vector fragment into orbit, perhaps the remains of a Titan, but the NORAD (the body which follows the routes of every satellite) states: 'and' impossible that remains of a Titan or any other missile can be found in that position ". For the second sighting was talk of lightning in the upper atmosphere.

Nasa.gov , la missione Gemini VII ebbe luogo dal 4 al 18 dicembre 1965 ed ebbe a bordo Frank Borman (pilota comandante) e James Lovell (pilota), entrambi al loro primo volo spaziale. I due astronauti stabilirono un record di durata che rimase imbattuto per cinque anni.

PAO Mission Commentary Transcript are given after that there were a number of other message exchanges with the astronauts.
The most important thing is that the extrapolation of the phrases out of context makes it seem like a mysterious communication that is not really when you read the entire transcript of communications and you know the mission. He explains it very clearly in the history of astronautics James Oberg

rendezvous con il secondo stadio del missile Titan-2, anch'esso arrivato in orbita intorno alla Terra.
Per una semplice necessità di meccanica celeste, la Gemini VII si trovò a ripassare più volte attraverso la nube di frammenti d'ogni dimensione staccatisi spontaneamente dallo stadio. Nello spazio e a velocità orbitale, l'assenza d'aria e di peso fanno sì che questi frammenti proseguano lungo la propria traiettoria viaggiando di conserva. Quello che videro gli astronauti era semplicemente un frammento più luminoso proveniente dal proprio missile. Non per nulla l'avvistamento avviene proprio in concomitanza con uno dei passaggi attraverso la nube di frammenti.
Del resto, il tono assolutamente calmo e rilassato con il quale gli astronauti dialogano con il centro di controllo a Houston indica che l'avvistamento non ha nulla di straordinario. Se davvero si fosse trattato di un veicolo alieno, presumibilmente le reazioni verbali sarebbero state ben altre.
Resta da chiarire la fotografia. La prima cosa che si nota è un fenomeno ricorrente nelle immagini ufologiche: la pessima qualità e la mancanza di una fonte precisa. Anche qui viene in soccorso James Oberg, che nell'articolo già citato ricorda la sua analisi dell'immagine, datata 1976 e pubblicata in
Search Magazine .
Si tratta di una versione alterata e sgranata della foto S65-63722, scattata durante la missione. Secondo il documento
Earth Photographs From Gemini VI Through XII , è la prima foto del rullino 24, scattata durante la settantasettesima rivoluzione intorno alla Terra, il 9 dicembre 1965 alle 21:51 GMT, quindi vari giorni dopo il presunto avvistamento, sopra l'Oceano Pacifico occidentale.

La versione originale di questa foto, presentata qui sopra, mostra in realtà il muso (scuro e in ombra) della capsula, sul quale si vede il riflesso metallico sfuocato degli ugelli dei piccoli razzi di regolazione d'assetto del veicolo spaziale. La forma del muso e la posizione degli ugelli è chiarita da questa fotografia di un
rendezvous fra le capsule Gemini 6 e 7.

La fotografia ufologica è stata insomma alterata, in modo che il muso scuro si confonda con la Terra altrettanto scura che si vede sullo sfondo, e poi capovolta e ritagliata.
Il riflesso degli ugelli si nota anche in altre fotografie delle missioni Gemini, come quella mostrata qui sotto, la
S65-45753 , riferita alla Gemini V.
